Scott Martin, a technical systems operator at Chickahominy Middle School (CMS), has been selected as the 2020 support employee of the year. Martin has been employed with Hanover County Public Schools since 2014.
“I have been fortunate to find a supportive environment at Chickahominy Middle School and Hanover County Public Schools where I can perform a job I enjoy and my work is appreciated. Education has become increasingly dependent on technology, and I am glad I can provide the necessary technical support to staff, teachers, and students. Being recognized as support employee of the year really shows how important this service is. What really makes my day is when I help a student or teacher solve a technology problem and they react with such gratitude that I wonder who is supporting who. I feel good when that person has learned something about technology and gained the confidence to face the next tech challenge . . . and maybe they won’t need me next time,” said Martin.
Mark Beckett, CMS principal, said, “Scott Martin often deals with us when we are the most frazzled, with laptops in hand, and still he is known for his unwavering patience and kindness. From the most complex network issues to building mentoring relationships with our students, Scott is a remarkable member of our team at Chickahominy.”
