The Secondary Education Department is responsible for programs in grades 6–12 and provides relevant learning experiences that promote critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, and citizenship skills.
Our Curriculum
The curriculum encompasses the core areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies based on the Virginia Standards of Learning. The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) may be accessed at VDOE Standards & SOL-based Instructional Resources. Instruction in health, physical education, music, art, and library provide additional educational experiences. Other programs that enhance the secondary curriculum include Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Advance College Academy, International Baccalaureate, Career and Technical Education, Gifted Services, Summer School, CodeRVA Regional High School, and those offered at The Specialty Center at Hanover High School, The Georgetown School, and The Hanover Center for Trades and Technology.
