Comprehensive Plan 2023-29
Hanover County Public Schools is drafting a new Comprehensive Plan to guide the work of the division for the next six years. Previously named the Long Range Plan, the division’s new Comprehensive Plan will provide the school division with a road map for the future, with emphasis on the mission and vision of the School Board. This five-year plan guides the work of the division’s dedicated staff, helps prioritize the allocation of resources, and details measurable goals and objectives that are designed to lead to student success. Ultimately, it details what the division does and why it does it.
Process
Code of Virginia requires that each school division in the Commonwealth has in place a comprehensive plan focused on improving classroom instruction and student achievement. The plan must be developed with staff and community involvement and be consistent with all other division-wide plans required by state and federal laws and regulations.
An Executive Committee comprised of division leaders and a Steering Committee comprised of representatives from schools and departments has been working since summer to begin drafting a new plan. These committees have reviewed data, discussed and developed ideas for the plan, and will write draft goals and objectives.
Another vital element of the comprehensive planning process is gathering input from stakeholders, including staff, students, families, and community members. The division’s annual survey included questions specifically related to the comprehensive plan, and in November, the division will hold four community open houses where anyone in the community can drop in and provide their input on the goals of the division.
Draft Plan and Survey
At its February 14 meeting, the Hanover County School Board received
a draft of the 2023-29 Comprehensive Plan. In an effort to collect as much input as possible, we encourage you to complete
this survey to provide feedback on the draft plan. Please note that the survey will remain open through Tuesday, February 28.
Once the survey closes at the end of the month, the Comprehensive Plan executive and steering committees – two groups that are comprised of division leaders as well as representatives from our schools and departments that have helped lead this process – will review the input and revise the draft plan as needed.
The Comprehensive Plan is expected to be on the agenda of the School Board’s business meeting on Tuesday, March 14 for first read before an expected vote at the School Board’s Tuesday, April 11 meeting.
