Julie Hudnall, the health and P.E. teacher at Battlefield Park Elementary School (BPES), was recognized by the Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AHPERD) as its 2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Two Hanover County Public Schools teachers have received the 2022 R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence and another two were finalists for the esteemed award, which recognizes them as outstanding teachers who demonstrate a sincere passion for teaching while also serving as mentors, coaches, and champions for their students.

Patrick Henry High School was selected by the Virginia Department of Education’s Military Student Support Process Action Team and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity of Military Children for the 2022-2023 Purple Star Designation Award, a recognition for schools that demonstrate military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families.

At the November 8 School Board meeting, the Calendar Committee presented the proposed calendar for the 2023-24 school year, which is now open for public comment.

HCPS was awarded a $374,850 grant from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services (VDBHDS) to address mental health needs across our county, building on the school division’s longstanding efforts to care for the whole child, not only the academic, but the social, physical, and emotional well-being of students.

Hanover County Public School announced today an on-time graduation rate of 95.2 percent for the Class of 2022, the 10th straight year that Hanover’s graduation rate has exceeded 95 percent.

All afterschool activities and events, including athletics and field trips, are canceled for the remainder of the day due to inclement weather.
