School Board

Board Docs. Click here for meeting informationHanover School Board members are charged with the responsibility to preserve and enhance public school education in Hanover County. The school board accepts its obligation to establish policies for the total operation of the school division, provide qualified personnel, adopt an annual school budget, and determine educational needs and desires of the community. The School Board sets challenging district goals while monitoring and evaluating progress toward these goals.

The Hanover County School Board operates within strict legal parameters established by the Virginia General Assembly and the federal government. The School Board relies on community involvement, professional educators, and deliberative judgment to fulfill its public trust.

Each of the county's seven magisterial districts is represented by a School Board member appointed to a four-year term by the Board of Supervisors of Hanover County. The terms of service are staggered and commence on July 1. The Superintendent of Hanover County Public Schools is appointed by the School Board as the chief administrator and executive officer.

Equity Policy

In January 2020, the Hanover County School Board passed its Equity Policy. This new language recognized that "every child deserves an education based upon fundamental principles of equity." As a community, we recognized that "Hanover County Public Schools is enriched by diversity and inclusivity and is dedicated to eliminating inequities. The school division is committed to taking deliberate action to match all students with the resources, tools, and supports they need to maximize their potential."

In alignment with and responsive to this Board policy, an Equity Report is presented to the School Board annually. The second annual report was presented in May 2022
