Programs

Intervention Counselors collaborate with the Health and Physical Education instructors to support the curriculum that students receive through their health classes in grades 6–10. Intervention Counselors reinforce the concepts of increasing protective factors to decrease impacts of risk. Providing instruction on how substances impact one’s brain in the short and long term assists students in understanding their unique risks and how they have control over their development by choosing not to use. Encouraging students to connect in healthy ways to school and community groups helps students develop a system of support. Working with school counseling and instructional staff, Intervention Counselors assist in facilitating and creating opportunities to grow skills like problem solving, expressing emotions, and building healthy relationships. Intervention Counselors collaborate with community partners to ensure programing is meeting the needs of our students in the community in which they live by supporting efforts to collect data on substance use, perceptions of use and availability of use.
