Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are well. The National Weather Service has placed Hanover County under a Hazardous Weather Outlook due to the increasing potential for significant severe weather on Monday. Specifically, there is a high risk of widespread and intense storms, including tornadoes and damaging wind over 70-75 miles per hour (hurricane-force wind). These storms are forecasted to begin late Monday morning and extend through the day. These storms would create hazardous travel conditions for our buses, student drivers, staff, and families, and also create the possibility of students and staff needing to shelter in place for an extended period of time.
As a result, Hanover County Public Schools will be CLOSED on Monday, March 16. Employees use Code 1, meaning at the earliest possible time, only designated personnel report to work. Please note that any designated employees who may be needed will be contacted directly by their supervisor.
Please note that
all after-school activities and events are canceled for Monday, March 16. Building access by school and community organizations will not be permitted.
We understand this is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We hope that sharing this information well in advance is helpful to you as you begin to make the necessary arrangements.
Please also note that
a communication is forthcoming regarding the impact of tomorrow’s school closure on the 2025-26 school calendar. Please stay tuned.
As always, we appreciate your support. Thank you.
Stay safe,
Hanover County Public Schools
