Inclement Weather Update: Jan. 28, 2026
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are warm and well. Travel conditions in Hanover County remain hazardous, particularly on secondary roads and within neighborhoods, due to this weekend’s inclement weather. With temperatures forecasted to remain below freezing, significant melting on roadways is unlikely, and we do not expect conditions to improve this week. These icy and snowy road conditions remain unsafe for our buses, student drivers, staff, and families.
As a result, HCPS will be CLOSED on Thursday, January 29 AND Friday, January 30. Thursday, January 29 will be a Remote Learning Day (more information below). Employees use Code 6 for both days, meaning at the earliest possible time, only designated personnel report to work. All other employees work remotely as able. Please note that
any designated employees who may be needed will be contacted directly by their supervisor.
While our schools and offices will be closed, tomorrow (Thursday) will be another Remote Learning Day across the school division as part of our inclement weather instructional plan that we shared with you last week. As a reminder, please note the following with regard to the Remote Learning Day:

All families will receive a ParentSquare message from your student’s teacher(s). This message will include information about how students can access their assignments for the day and how to contact the teacher if your child needs assistance.

Elementary school students will complete activities that do not require a computer and will be shared via ParentSquare by your student’s teacher. This work will be turned into your student’s classroom teacher once schools reopen to count as participation for the day.

Middle and high school students will access A Day lessons to work on independently in Schoology.
- If needed, students can use Friday to complete assignments from the Thursday Remote Learning Day.

We recognize the impact a Remote Learning Day may bring to your family and greatly appreciate your adaptability to help ensure that our students receive instruction and support.

Please note that
all after-school activities and events are canceled for Thursday, January 29 AND Friday, January 30. Building access by school and community organizations will not be permitted.
We understand this continues to be disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We hope that sharing this information well in advance is helpful to you as you begin to make the necessary arrangements.
Please note that we are closely monitoring forecasts of additional inclement weather this weekend. We will communicate any further delays or closures that may be necessary as quickly as possible.
