Full Message/Details:

Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,

We hope you are well. We are writing to share with you an update regarding the boundary evaluation and adjustment process.

As we shared with you earlier this school year, we are undergoing a school boundary line evaluation and adjustment process to address student enrollment and capacity across schools in HCPS. This process will help to ensure that we continue to serve our students in facilities that are used in the most effective and efficient way possible.

Over the past few months, we have worked closely with a third-party vendor, MGT, to review the capacities of our schools, develop potential boundary adjustments, and more. We are utilizing their expertise in this important process.

Utilization Data

Accordingly, we are pleased to share with you a new webpage that includes the utilization (essentially, the percentage of a school’s functional capacity in which students are enrolled) of each school in the division. Please note that there are current, five-year, and 10-year forecasts for each school level.

This data is guiding MGT’s work as we collaboratively work to effectively and efficiently utilize our school buildings. As we shared with you in October, we are committed to keeping you fully informed throughout this process and this information is an important cornerstone for this work.

Community Meetings

We are also pleased to share with you that MGT will host three in-person community engagement meetings next month to receive input on the draft boundary options, which remain scheduled to be released in January.

The three meetings will be held as follows:

- Monday, January 27 at 7 p.m. at Atlee High School
- Tuesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. at Patrick Henry High School
- Wednesday, January 29 at 7 p.m. at Mechanicsville High School

Additionally, MGT will make available a virtual opportunity for your input should you not be able to attend a meeting. More information on the virtual opportunity will be shared next month.

Please be assured that your input and partnership is valued during this process.

As a reminder, we have created this webpage to serve as the home of information for this process. It includes a timeline, FAQs, community engagement information, and more.

We greatly appreciate your continued support and partnership, and look forward to your engagement at next month’s meetings.

Thank you.
