4:30 p.m. Update (January 10):
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We sincerely appreciate your patience and support over the past two days as we have had to swiftly respond to the heavy storms that led to road closures, high water, downed trees, limbs, and power lines, power outages, and internet connectivity issues. We recognize that inclement weather closures and delays are disruptive and appreciate your understanding.
We have continued to evaluate the impact of the inclement weather and are pleased to share that
we will welcome students back to all of our schools tomorrow. Please note that it will be an “A” day for our middle and high schools.
Again, thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff, prioritizing the safety of our school community. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Thank you.

7:45 a.m. Update (January 10):
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Our team has been carefully evaluating road and weather conditions this morning. Several roads are closed and have downed trees, limbs, high water, and power lines, primarily in the western and central areas of Hanover County. Travel conditions will be hazardous for our bus drivers, student drivers, staff, and parents, significantly impacting a safe and timely arrival to school for our community this morning. Additionally, there are widespread internet connectivity issues across our schools and high winds are expected to continue today. As a result,
HCPS will be CLOSED on Wednesday, January 10. Employees use Code 1 (at the earliest possible time, only designated emergency personnel report to work).
As a reminder, we offer several convenient ways for you to stay up-to-date with the latest closings or delays that may be necessary. Please take a moment to select the best option(s) for you and your family.

8 p.m. Update:
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Thank you once again for your patience and understanding today as we successfully closed schools two hours early due to the severe weather. Heavy winds and severe rain are expected to continue overnight. We anticipate this will continue to create hazardous travel conditions into tomorrow due to the high likelihood of flooded roadways, as well as downed trees and utility lines. Currently, two of our school buildings are without power with no estimated time for service to be restored.
As a precaution and to allow our team sufficient time and daylight to fully assess travel conditions and our facilities,
HCPS will be opening on a two-hour delay for ALL face-to-face and online STUDENTS and ALL EMPLOYEES on Wednesday, January 10. Essential personnel will be contacted as needed.
Please note that
a two-hour delay is intended to allow HCPS staff additional time to further assess conditions and make a final determination on whether or not to open the school division. We will communicate any additional closings or delays that may be necessary as quickly as possible so you can begin making the necessary arrangements for your student.
We understand this is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We hope that sharing this information well in advance is helpful to you as you begin making the necessary arrangements.
Stay safe and warm,
Hanover County Public Schools
