Original January 16 Message:
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are warm and well. Our team continues to monitor weather and travel conditions as a result of the latest snow and ice that impacted our county and the surrounding area. Temperatures are currently below freezing and are forecasted to plunge into the teens overnight. This, combined with the precipitation of the past two days, is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions on many roadways in the morning – specifically black ice – for our buses, student drivers, parents, and staff.
As a precaution and to allow our team sufficient time to fully assess travel conditions, our facilities, and our buses,
HCPS will be opening on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17. Custodial and maintenance staff please report on time.
Please note that
a two-hour delay is intended to allow HCPS staff additional time to further assess conditions and make a final determination on whether or not to open the school division. We will communicate any additional closings or delays that may be necessary as quickly as possible so you can begin making the necessary arrangements for your student.
We understand this is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We hope that sharing this information well in advance is helpful to you.
Stay safe and warm,
Hanover County Public Schools
