The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has named Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) as a “Best Community for Music Education” for the ninth year in a row. Hanover County is one of only 20 school divisions in Virginia to achieve this coveted status. There are 132 school divisions in the Commonwealth.
“We know how essential music education is to the development of the whole child and our community. I’m grateful once again for the exceptional efforts of our accomplished and passionate music educators who work tirelessly to provide our students with a well-rounded education in a year like no other,” said Dr. Michael Gill, Superintendent.
The NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit organization, awards this designation to school divisions and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment to offering comprehensive music education to all students. It further serves to recognize the outstanding efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum.
“While the pandemic has resulted in a temporary challenge for music education, our past recognitions have contributed to us earning this award again,” said Barry Flowe, Performing Arts Curriculum Specialist. “I appreciate the support music education continues to receive from our Hanover community, and I am thrilled this support is again being recognized during this unprecedented school year.”
Flowe said the main reason for the school system’s continued recognition is because of the dedicated performing arts teachers.
“They are innovative, flexible, and student-focused as they deliver quality instruction each and every day,” he said.
