Advanced Placement

What is AP?

Advanced Placement gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they're still in high school, with the potential to earn college credit and placement with qualifying exam scores. Through the rigorous courses, students develop skills that help them prepare for college and can explore potential majors based on their interests. Students stay at their home/zoned high school while taking AP courses. Students are responsible for AP exam fees.

The AP Student

AP students have a willingness to actively engage with sophisticated concepts. They are assessed by rigorous, college-level standards. AP students complete longer and more complex nightly assignments, as well as summer assignments.

Courses

Hanover County Public Schools offers a wide range of AP courses. AP course offerings may differ by school. View the Sample AP Course Schedule.

Exams

AP Exams are typically administered over two weeks in May. Early testing or testing at times other than those published by the College Board is not permitted under any circumstances. View the Advanced Placement Exam Schedule. AP exam fees are the responsibility of the student and are not refundable.
