Child Find in Hanover County Public Schools
Child Find is a required process through which school divisions identify, locate, and evaluate children from birth through age 21 who may be in need of special education and related services.
If you believe that your child or student may require special education services, please review the guidance below to determine the appropriate next steps.
For children currently enrolled in school (Preschool–Grade 12): If you suspect that a student who is already enrolled in school may have a disability requiring special education services, please contact the Administrator of Special Education (ASE) at your child’s home school.
● In elementary schools, the ASE is the assistant principal.
● In middle and high schools, the ASE is the secondary special education senior teacher.
For children who are homeschooled or attend a private school in Hanover County: If you suspect that your child who is homeschooled or attending a private school within Hanover County may have a disability requiring special education and related services, please contact the Administrator of Special Education (ASE) at the school in your home attendance zone.
For children ages 3–5: If you have concerns that your child may have a disability or is not meeting developmental milestones, please contact the assistant principal (who serves as the ASE) at the neighborhood school where your child will attend kindergarten.
For children ages birth–3: If you have concerns about your infant or toddler’s development, please contact the Hanover County Early Intervention Program (Infant & Toddler Connection of Hanover) at (804) 365-3330.
