2021-22 COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies

HCPS LogoThe wellbeing of students, faculty, and staff is the top priority for Hanover County Public Schools. We are committed to the health and safety of our community and have been successful in our efforts to maintain in-person learning for both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years due to the vigilance of our students and staff.

We are utilizing various COVID-19 mitigation strategies to make this possible, including the following:

- Regular reinforcement of measures that help to support and promote health and hygiene, such as staying home when sick, social distancing to the greatest extent possible, and frequent handwashing.
- Requiring isolation for those who test positive for COVID-19.
- Frequently cleaning our buildings, bathrooms, buses, and high-touch surfaces.
- Routinely checking our ventilation systems to ensure they are functioning properly. Each of our HVAC units have, at a minimum, MERV 10 filters and several air handlers have double filters, where possible.
- Hand sanitizing stations and supplies for classrooms and common areas.
- Disposable lunch trays and utensils, as well as touchless payment in our cafeterias.

For more information on contact tracing, quarantines, and isolation, please visit this webpage. Please also visit this webpage for more information on face masks.

Additionally, we believe in keeping our community informed about health concerns and related decisions connected to our schools. Our 2021-22 COVID-19 Dashboard is updated every Friday by 5 p.m. during the school year, notwithstanding scheduled holidays or other days when the school division is closed on Fridays.

If you have any questions related to COVID-19, please feel free to contact the Chickahominy Health District Coronavirus Hotline during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at 804-365-3240. For questions related to our COVID-19 mitigation strategies, please email [email protected].

We are incredibly grateful for our community’s continued support of our efforts to keep our schools open and safe.
